Thakadu Game Lodge invites you to come and taste the Buschveld in an unforgettable experience of its natural wonders. Thakadu Game Lodge was established in 1993 by developing 700ha of indigenous Buschveld in an enclosed nature conservation area. At Thakadu Game Lodge a select number of guests are accommodated in either a delightful African-style thatched Busch camp, or in the Chalet which have a rustic finish, that adds to the true Bushveld atmosphere. Each is equipped with electricity and the comforts of home. The Lodge can accommodate a maximum of 32 people.

The bush camp and chalets are built in the indigenous bush and provide quests with privacy whilst being within 200m of the main lapa. There are 3 Chalets, 2 Chalets (Kome and Tolo) have 3 rooms each with 2 double beds and in the one room 4 bunk beds with bathroom (shower), kitchenette, lounge and private braai area. They accommodate 8 people in each. Chalet 3 (Dube) has 3 rooms, 2 rooms have double beds and 1 room has a bunk bed (sleeping 2) with bathroom (shower), kitchenette, lounge and private braai area. It can accommodate 6 people. Bushcamp (Kolobe) has 3 huts of which there is a double bed and 2 single beds, with kitchenette/bar, private braai are, 2 showers and Toilets in each unit. This is for a group of 13 people. All rooms have fans.

The Chalets are 2-star rated and the bush camp is 3-star rated. We are also AA Recommended.

A further 40 000ha is available for hunting. Since then, the Lodge has been host of many local and overseas clients, whose needs have been catered for by a Professional Hunter, Outfitter and a fully trained staff.


The Owner/Professional Hunter is fluent in German, Polish, English and Dutch. The Lodge established a Taxidermy in 1999, and continues to satisfy and give good memories to all its customers.

South Africa has some world class hospitals, and other medical facilities that lies in close proximity to Thakadu Game Lodge, which is situated in the Limpopo Province, a Malaria free area. Therefore no precautions need to be taken. Nor is there any need for any immunization. If you have any allergies or health complications, please bring your own medicine or prescriptions. The Limpopo Province mild winters and hot summers are ideal for game viewing and provide excellent conditions for hunting and outdoor activities. Please wear comfortable clothing, protective head gear and apply sun-protecting lotions.

Accommodation

MAIN LODGE AREA

The Main Lodge offers an air-conditioned open plan lounge area with leather sofas, a formal dining area, bar, snooker table, upstairs TV-room with DSTV, ladies and gents toilets, fully equipped kitchen, walk-in fridge, freezer and pantry. A spacious wooden deck opens through enormous sliding doors of the Main Lodge and flows to the outdoor pool area. A boma area set alongside the wooden deck provides all round seating to peacefully enjoy a braai and stargaze all night long.

CHALETS

Thakadu Safaris Lodge has two luxury en-suite thatched chalets with each having a private thatched deck area overlooking the river. Guests are welcome to make use of one or both, as well as the optional use of the Main Lodge facilities.

Chalet no. 1:
Chalet No. 1 has two air-conditioned separate en-suite bedrooms with each bedroom sleeping 2 person (sleeps total 4 persons).

Chalet no. 2:
Chalet No. 2 is a double storey facility with loft area for the children. It has four air-conditioned separate en-suite bedrooms. The two ground floor bedrooms sleep 3 persons and the two 1st floor bedrooms sleeps 2 persons each (sleeps 10 persons excluding the loft for the children).

Both chalets include a daily cleaning service, all linen, a fully equipped kitchen and open air boma braai area with fire wood supplied for each day.

The chalets can be booked on a self catering or catered basis. Breakfast and dinner will be served in the Main Lodge if the catered option is selected.

ACTIVITIES

A variety of activities are available to all guests including the following: Game drives; Hiking; Birding; Vulture Restaurant (Enjoy watching the White-backed and Lappet-faced Vultures feed off carcasses at the Raptor Society endorsed “Vulture Restaurant”; Fishing or Fly-fishing; Clay pigeon Shooting and Archery; Shooting Range. Thakadu Safaris offers concession rights in the greater Northern Province and can arrange hunting of the Big 5 on special request.

WILDLIFE

The 3300 ha private game reserve is home to various plains game species such as warthog, impala, bles buck, red hartbeest, blue wildebeest, kudu, nyala, eland, oryx, sable, giraffe, zebra, water buck, leopard, brown hyena, rooikat and several smaller animals of prey. Thakadu Safaris is proud of our game breeding facility which includes prime game such as black impala, sable and buffalo.

BIRDING

With over 350 species of birds identified by birding societies, the game reserve is home to the following birds of prey such as the White-backed vulture, Lappet-faced vulture, Martial eagle, Brown Snake eagle, African Fish eagle and Bateleur.

African Cuisine is served either in the main Lapa next to the swimming pool with its view of the African bush, or in the Boma, besides crackling fires, where quests may experience the sounds of the African night. Local specialties include venison from the farm as well as homemade preserves.

FACILITIES

The river banks allow fly-fishermen access to the more elusive fish, and the many trails and lookout spots give nature-lovers a chance to view game, small mammals as well as butterflies and other insects.
